I am interested to learn of the ban on bullfighting. As a spectator, I saw three young, unseasoned matadors in Mexico City mutulate three animals. At the time, I was the featured vocalist with Benny Goodman.

By the wsy: Eli: Carol Sloane here, the woman who typed the manuscript of "The Provincials" in Terry Sanford's law offices in Raleigh, NC.

I hope you receive this message and drop a line.

Kindest regards,
-Carol Sloane

I think we missed our calling, perhaps as ace detectives where such random attention to detail and mental puzzle assembly would be put to use for the good of society. I, too, have always felt like the owner of a mis-wired brain. But somehow it works for me in certain contexts. In ohters, I am an entertaining oddball. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't forgotten this post. I think our journey home is nearing a fork in the road. Will Scott Walker be recalled? So proud of all the citizens of Wisconsin who never gave up and now other states are having second thoughts (Ohio) about what they did in the dead of winter. ALEC and the boilerplate legislation has to be stopped. Rescind Citizens United. Forward!

Interesting article. I'm from Metro Detroit. Metro Detroiters like Eminem because his mystique and Authenticity combined represent the type of celebrity that a city like Detroit needs. Detroit is not a bling city anywhere on the surface. It's complex and Eminem is a good celeb to represent Detroit because his persona is complex.

I like your thoughts on the simulation of real authenticity. I guess when it comes to Detroit, I've bought what he is selling.

You made my heart weep as I read the words you penned. I have been away from Wisconsin for 45 years and still refer to it as "down home" when I speak of the small farm I grew up on in Wisconsin. The sense of place is still strong, but the bedrock foundation of common sense for the common good will never leave this dairyman's daughter. I urge everyone to support Wisconsin's recall efforts in any way they can. ONE DAY LONGER, ONE DAY STRONGER.

Eli Evan's use of the idea of "home" is particularly apt and tragic because the Ayn Rand vampires of the right have literally invaded our Madison home. However, just as Herr Hitler's joyous little jig in Paris was short lived, this dance will hopefully be a short one as well.
